Road bridge across the Neman (Nemunas) on the road to Olkeniki (Valkininkai) and Orany (Varena) was built to the south of Olita (Alytus), in village Koniuki. It was 193.5 meters long and 15 m high. The bridge has five spans: two shore spans each 14.6 m long, and three river spans each 54.7 m long. Dressed stone piers were built with shafts for explosives.
Iron elements of the spans were produced by Putilov factory in Sankt-Petersburg and were floated from Memel (Klaipeda) by the Neman. Spans were assembled on temporary scaffolding.
Side bays were spanned with I-beam girders, river ones with trusses. The bridge deck was timbered, therefore it wore fast and often repairs was necessary. In tsar era the bridge was finished silver colour.

In 1915 Russian army retreated forts and cantonments of Olita without resistance and exploded all three bridges in the vicinity. River spans of Kaniuku bridge were blown up. After seizing terrain German troops constructed temporary timbered bridge some 200 m downstream, and later reconstructed the road bridge (perhaps using original trusses).
And what is more Germans rebuilt new railway bridge instead of one blew up by Russians.

In the end of WW2 withdrawing German forces exploded central truss of the bridge. Span fell into the river but still remained repairable.

In 1964 the bridge deck was covered with asphalt concrete.

In 1976-1977 Kaniuku bridge was fully reconstructed. The new steel five spans (18.0+3×54.1+18.0) girder bridge was 203.47 m long, 20 m high and 13.7 m wide. During reconstruction old truss was dismantled, steel girders were pulled onto old stone piers. The cross-section of bridge spans is 6 I-beams interconnected with lateral bracings. Individual sections of span were trussed together with high strength bolts. Bridge deck made of two layers - ferroconcrete and asphalt concrete.
